How “once in a lifetime” became part of our daily life
Our love of Africa and its wildlife traces back to our honeymoon, which we had planned to be a once-in-a-lifetime adventure to Botswana. We were enthralled almost immediately - by the small plane ride to a dirt strip in the bush, by the guides and their zest for life and respect for nature, by the coziness and warmth of the camps and their gracious hosts and, of course, the animals in the wild as Nature intended.
After 10 days and 3,500 pictures, we had experienced the Linyanti, Okavango Delta and Moremi. But, this adventure had merely whetted our appetite.
In 6 months we were back on safari, visiting 4 private reserves in South Africa. A year later we were in Zambia and Zimbabwe, including 3 days of canoeing and tracking animals on foot on the famed Mana Canoe Trail. The die was cast, we were hooked.
Now, a year is not complete without at least 1 safari to Africa. The time in between is spent sorting & editing photos, sharing stories and our favorite pictures, putting together books & albums plus, of course, planning the next adventure and awaiting it in eager anticipation! Shy is now a Director at Asia to Africa Safaris (www.atoasafaris.com) and has taken as her profession as well as her passion to spread the word on African safaris.
